Kalamazoo Choppers

About

Kalamazoo Choppers is owned by Andy Boersma, He grew up in Portage, went to Portage Central. He then went to and graduated from Indiana University. After that he decided to go to MMI in Phoenix AZ. Andy then worked at several dealerships around the country gaining the knowledge he needed to become a great mechanic. Once he was confident enough, he opened a shop in his hometown that he called Kalamazoo Choppers. At first, all he had was his tool box and a bike lift, and in seven years Andy has turned his shop into an amazing little place. Andy and his team focus mostly on parts and service for your HD motorcycle, but we are also the best place to bring your bike for customizing needs. We build frames, springer front ends, handlebars, exhaust, gas tanks and we are also the hot rod performance experts. We have a showroom full of our own custom creations, clothing, and tons of parts.

When I bought my first Harley (1995 fat boy) I had a problem finding handlebars that made me feel comfortable. Before I was done I had 21 inch tall ape hangers and the bike still felt too small for me. I’m only six foot one. I sat on and rode every model out there and they were all too small for me.

I decided that this was my calling, to make longer bigger framed bikes that made me feel comfortable riding a motorcycle. I began stretching and modifying exhisting frames and eventually started building frames from scratch. This is what I love to do, making bigger frames to fit bigger guys and gals. I have a custom frame jig that allows me to make some crazy big frames that you can not have made anywhere else. Since I never duplicate frames , you are guaranteed a one of a kind that you can call your own. I put a lot into each frame, so if you’re looking for a cheapy, we can order you one of those.

My father called me Scooter as a baby because he didn’t want to call me J.R. The name stuck all the way through school, work and play. Now 32 years later Scooter is who I am and bikes are what I do. How did I get here? Six years ago my father and I were working on a project 47 Knuckle in the computer room in his house (biker style) when I had to leave for work. That was it, like a wife girlfriend moment, something had to give. I chose freedom and the rest is history. My education started young organizing nuts and bolts in coffee cans for Dad. Motorcycles have been in my life ever since. In 04 I attended MMI in Pheonix and graduated in 06. I found work in the pro’s so to speak and am very lucky to work with true motorcycle experts like Andy and Don here at K-ZOO choppers. Ride’m don’t hide’m.

Joe is the new guy, so if he keeps up the good work I’ll add his bio. Good luck Joe.
